Over the years there have been several volumes of documents
assembled to present the history of Schley County, Georgia. As with any recorded
history the accuracy is only as good as the statements in previous supporting
documents and/or the memories of the persons creating the historical record.
Recent documents include History of Schley County
(1932) authored by Mrs. H.J. Williams and included as a part of History of
Schley County, Georgia published in 1982 by the Schley County Preservation
Society, Ellaville, Georgia.
Another volume is Ellaville and Schley County......an
historical sketch was published by the Heritage Committee of the Schley
County Bicentennial Commission in 1976.
The published volumes mentioned above stand as published and
surely contain truthful and concise information as was best known and available
at the time of publication.
This site is not meant to replace or dispute the
existing written history of Schley County with special reference to the History of
Schley County, Georgia compiled and sponsored by
Schley county Preservation Society 1981 - 1982.
The purpose of this site is to amend and enhance
previous publications by providing a means to share many different
versions of details related to places, people and events occurring
throughout the history of Schley County.
